Creating Dependent Option Sets - Where to start?

I would like to create Dependent Option Sets - where option set field is filtered by a value chosen in another option set field. I would also like to have UI for the making the dependencies. Where should I start?

I looked at the sample, provided by Microsoft, but you need to write XML for the dependencies.

But it's not working

It has a nice UI for picklist mapping, but again, I couldn't get it working, and I also don't need the TreeView, just the solution to map the dependencies.
