I am reading on a few posts about certificates If using Exchange 2010.
Can I ask why Exchange requires a proper SSL certificate and why it can't use self signed?
I am currently having major issues deploying email router with our on premise CRM2013 to our on premise Exchange 2010 enterprise environment.
Our exchange 2010 is accessed externally using services like outlook web access however the security layer is handled by our Extranet which is what is used as the gateway to this service so we previously we haven't needed to secure our OWA or exchange to the outside world as that is dealt at the Juniper Extranet level.
So we use a self signed certificate on our exchange box and via the Exchange IIS configuration. Will this cause me issues with rolling out email router?
Our Dynamics CRM environment consists of a front end and back end server model. The back end server is what hosts the email router part however when I use the 'test access' functionality in the email router config I receive an error, I have adjusted the settings then receive different errors. I only receive the error for incoming status. The out going status always succeeds.
The error I am seeing are:
Incoming status: failure - the underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel. The remote certificate is invalid according to the validation procedure.
I can purchase a certificate however that will be costly and the question I am asking I really would prefer not to purchase especially as we will not need it ever for our Exchange environment.
I have done some reading online and some blogs/posts do say self assigned cannot be used, I am just trying to understand why, and if there is any other workaround this?
Would appreciate any support on this as it's driving me crazy!
