I am a newbie to Dynamics.
I am trying to import contact and account entity data using single excel (xlsx) file in Dynamics 365 on-premise v8.2. I created a custom data map for my required fields. It got imported successfully. I then created a excel file with the required field headers as per my custom data map. When i upload the file, the system did not accept the file.
1. I got validation error for the file that its not a valid template.
I downloaded the contact template and removed fields except the one that i have in my custom data map. When i imported this file, the system is able to validate the file properly, however it failed with lookup reference error for the Account name.
I dont see the Datamap selection screen when i import the excel. Only if i break the excel by adding a custom column, then i get the mapping screen highlighted only with the Contact entity info. Its not listing the Account entity mapping.
My goal is to learn how data migration works, if we want to map and import data from external/legacy systems.
Any help on this is much appreciated.
