Adding additional columns from related entities to views in CRM 2013

Is there a way to add columns from related entities to views, We aren’t seeing the related entity in the list of available entities to choose from in the “Add Columns” window.

For example, we have the default Contact entity, and our custom Contact Widgets entity; Contact Widgets have the following fields: Contact, Widget Type, and Value. We set up a query on Widgets and want the view to display both Contact and Widget information. In the Contact view, how could we display Contact Name, Address, and the Contact Widget’s Value?

There was a way our team did this with the SavedQuery.FetchXML attribute in CRM 2011, but we can no longer get it working with our solution in CRM 2013.
