I use Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2016 Version 8.0 (Build
running on a Windows Server 2012R2 Virtual Machine .
Today I noticed the plugin registration tool is not working anymore.
I receive the following error when I try create a new connection and click on the login button:

I checked my services, they are all up and running.
I used Fiddler and actually there is not even a request made to the discovery service. In fact no call is being made at all.
Then I tried using earlier versions of the PluginRegistrationTool. Versions 2013 -2015 give the same error.
Only when trying version 2011 I received a usable error that Windows Identity Foundation was missing.
I installed Windows Identity Foundation using PowerShell; version 3.5 successfully installed but this did not solve my issue.
Any guess what my problem might be?
